Mr. Casserole suggested an album I must have and it got me thinking:

Got any album suggestions? I'm making a list  but to kick it off:

Tracklisting:
1 United 8  Getting Uptown (To Get Down) (2:43)
2 Clarence Wheeler  Right On (4:36)
3 Black Heat  No Time To Burn (3:48)
4 Gaturs, The  Cold Bear (2:51)
5 Fred Wesley  A Blow For Me, A Toot To You (Edited Version) (5:17)
6 King Curtis  Memphis Soul Stew (Live) (7:38)
7 Yusef Lateef  Bishop School (3:00)
8 Roland Kirk  Making Love After Hours (4:30)
9 Donny Hathaway  The Ghetto (Live) (Edited Version) (7:36)
10 Mongo Santamaria  I Can't Get Next To You (2:41)
11 Eddie Harris  I Need Some Money (3:10)
12 Roy Ayers  Daddy Bug (3:05)
13 Billy Cobham  Spectrum (Edited Version) (3:14)
14 Natural Bridge Bunch  Pig Snoots (Part 1) (3:58)
15 Lotti Golden  Sock It To Me Baby / It's Your Thing (3:27)
16 Southshore Commission*  Right On Brother (2:35)
17 Herbie Mann  Hi-Jack (5:13)
18 Fred Wesley  Up For The Down Stroke (3:30)
19 Gaturs, The  The Gatur AKA The Booger Man (2:30)
20 Roy Ayers  Virgo Vibes (Edited Version) (3:40)

This album will always be the genesis of my funk obsession. I was told one day that if I really wanted to get funked, to go to dustygroove and just randomly buy 5-10 Deep Funk CDs. I did and this one was in that pile. It blew me away the same way Jerry Garcia did, or Trey Anastasio did the first time I saw them live. (1984 and 1991). I listened to this and the Sound of funk Series (Goldmine records which will always be 2nd best to Soul Patrol to me) and it was over. My buddy sealed the deal by giving me the Blue Breakbeats collection that same summer.

Who's next?

That one looks pretty good.  I think I have a couple of those tracks, but not most of them.

I'm still thinking of a good one to recommend, but it will come soon...

Uh yeah, well ...It's only George Porter Jr form the Meter's / Funky Meters on Bass, ....it's no wonder that tune made Robert Palmer an overnight success.

Back in those days, the FM Radio did also help out an emerging artist a lot too.
