This album is about as delicious as Surf and Turf.

Live At Cafe Montmartre 1966 Vol 2
Don Cherry

(From Dusty Groove)

CD (Item 472106) ESP, 1966 -- Condition: New Copy
Incredible work from Don Cherry -- a previously unreleased live date from the 60s, but every bit as great as any of his better-known records from the decade! The sound here is really amazing -- a hip blend of Cherry's trumpet with tenor from Gato Barbieri and vibes from Karl Berger -- working here in a piano-less setting that has all three players snaking together beautifully as the tunes unfold -- freed up a bit to explore some really bold new territory, yet always held together with the same sense of inherent rhythm you'd find on Cherry's Blue Note albums from the late 60s. Rhythm is by Bo Stief on bass and Aldo Romano on drums -- both players who really help the tunes take on some great structures -- especially during the group's extended take on "Orfeu Negro", a number taken in very similar ways to Archie Shepp's Fire Music version of "Girl From Ipanema"! Other numbers are great too -- and include "Remembrance", "Spring Is Here", "Suite For Albert Ayler", and "Complete Communion", done in a 22 minute take.

Gimmie some albums to pick up from your secret aresenal.

I know I plug this a lot but this album should be considered one of the great Jazz albums of its time. If you can believe it I have never heard either roughneck album (I need to make this a priority) This album is Jazz personified:

From dustygroove.com:

The greatest solo work we've heard so far from guitarist Eddie Roberts -- and a set that shows that Eddie's as great at jazz as he is at funk! Although Roberts is best known for his harder grooves on records with The New Mastersounds, this set has him working in a sweetly jazzy mode -- one that still has plenty of rhythms at the bottom, especially bossa ones -- and which is very much in keeping with the mod Italian image on the cover. 60s influences mix with Italian ones -- creating a record that has the appeal of some of the best on Schema from recent years, but without as many programs in the rhythms. Eddie's clean, lean guitar lines soar beautifully over backings from a quintet -- and he's playing here with chromatic hues that are quite different than usual, showing almost a Wes Montgomery sort of inspiration! Titles include "Napule E", "Dicitencello Vuje", "Giorgios Brother", "24000 Baci", "Na Sera E Maggio", and "Storia D'Amore".

Hey Alex aka Bassman!

You can get The Trenta, Roughneck and Roughneck Live in Paris on Itunes for $9.99 each.  You can get the Roughneck Album in the US from cdbaby.com. http://cdbaby.com/cd/eddieroberts

Trenta you can get on Dustygroove.com.

Let me tell you something too....If you don't know dustygroove.com in the US then you need to get to know it! The reason I even know funk music as much as I do is from random purchases from that site.

Oh man Alex you are going to love dustygroove.com. I have nothing to do with them except at one point I think I gave them more money than my rent. haha.

If you click on Deep Funk CDs it begins.....If you are a 45 OCD hound like me, select 45s and you will go bonkers with new music:

http://www.dustygroove.com/browse.php?cat=39&page=1&alpha=various&sortfield=artist&format=cd

I used to just randomly buy 5 various CDs from the deep funk section (Whatever was on sale) and the funk just never ends. Every now and then you throw in someone like

and the next thing you know you have 50 terabytes of music or a bunch of 45s without a turntable like me. haha.

 Shocked

Recomend me a Jazz album.
